My new ISP – Globelines

I’ve switched to a new ISP lately because I was disappointed by my old Smart Bro ISP. It keeps disconnecting from the internet and has a very slow connection. I am a loyal subscriber of Smart Bro for a year and decided immediately to disconnect from the service because of the said latter.

I went to the Smart Wireless Center, paid my last bill and requested a permanent disconnection. After that, I went to Globe Center to apply for a 1mbps internet connection for 995 a month. The agent was fast and friendly. She said that they will survey my location if it is reachable within their service. The following day, they informed me that our house was ok for installation. So I paid my bill and the following day again, I began to enjoy their service. As advertised, my Globelines has a stable rate of 1mbps connection and can reach up to 2.5mbps on certain conditions. See image bellow. Now, I can download and browse Youtube simultaneously without having to wait for the buffer to load.

BitTorrent (What is it?)

Posted in Computer with tags , , , , , on February 2, 2008 by Mr. 9

Ever wondered how people download the latest movies, games, apps, and music on the net for free? Are you jealous of them and want to try it out but haven’t have the knowledge of doing it? Rejoice because BitTorrent is here!

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) communications protocol. BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the entire costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead, when data is distributed using the BitTorrent protocol, each recipient supplies pieces of the data to newer recipients, reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source, providing redundancy against system problems, and reducing dependence on the original distributor.

Peer-to-peer(P2P) means that you are sharing files from another computer across the internet. It is the backbone of BitTorrent. However, there is a central server (called a tracker) which coordinates the action of all such peers. The tracker only manages connections, it does not have any knowledge of the contents of the files being distributed. The philosophy of BitTorrent is that users should upload (seed) at the same time they are downloading (leeching). In this manner, network bandwidth is utilized as efficiently as possible. BitTorrent is designed to work better as the number of people interested in a certain file increases, in contrast to other file transfer protocols.

Ok enough for the intro. Let’s get this thing started. Here’s what you need to use BitTorrent to download files from the net.

  1. Internet connection (How can you download if you have no net? *wtf*)
  2. BitTorrent Client (µTorrent, Azerus, BitComent, BitLord, etc.)
  3. BitTorrent Sites (,,,,, etc.)

A BitTorrent client is a program that downloads files using the BitTorrent Protocol. It is similar to FlashGet, LimeWire, and BearShare but differ in protocol.

In my opinion, the most popular BitTorrent Client is uTorrent because of it’s lightweight size and resource-friendly program, taking less than 6mb on memory consumption. It very efficient and loads faster than other BitTorrenc Clients. It’s file size is only 220 KB, less than a megabyte! You can download it here.

The next thing you need to do is  to find torrent sites on the net. They manages the torrent files and indexes trackers. It is like a server or a host. You can download torrents any of the sites I mentioned above.

The next thing to consider is the number of seeds. The more the seeds, the faster your downloads. So be sure to download a torrent that has seeds of 200+ to ensure a fast download.

A friendly advice, BitTorrent utilize the technology to download copyrighted material such as movies and software without legally purchasing them thus promoting piracy. It’s up to you to download or not. Comments are Highly Appreciated.
